Ariana Afghanistan Television has been the premiere source of Afghan related local and international news since 1989, serving the Afghan community in the United States. On July 1, 2006, we initiated our first 24 hour broadcast to North America, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. This is an exciting venture for our network as it provides us with a new venue to connect both America with Afghanistan and the Afghans with the world.
Our aim is to transform a culture of guns and warlordism into a culture of peace where human rights and freedoms are respected. The intent is not to provide the right answers, but to pose the right questions. One of our main objectives is to promote democracy and insure that values of dignity, equality and justice are incorporated into this infant democratic process. We specifically want to highlight the involvement of women in all spheres of political, economic and social life. Our coverage will allow us to bring about positive social change by way of dialogue, debate, and education, rather than the rule of the gun.
What is significant here is that we will be able to reach families in the most remote parts of Afghanistan. This will not only give us the opportunity to educate and guide the people of Afghanistan in new directions, but also fight fundamentalism and terrorism. Many of these Afghans have never been out of the country and have never had access to education while living in the mountains and in the valleys of Afghanistan. They are the most susceptible to being conditioned and fall into the trap of terrorist groups, unless we use this medium to provide them with education and open their minds and hearts.
